Hello Again! This is a short movie I created using Windows Live Movie Maker. I am very pleased with how it came out! It is a short recount of the French Revolution, including causes, major events, King Louis XVI, and affects. This could easily be used as a cross-curricular project in my French Class to tie in what students are learning in Global History. Also, it would be a nice leading point into culture and Mireille Matthieu, the famous French singer of the La Marseillaise, the French National Anthem.

Script :
1. The French Revolution was a period of major social and
political change in France from 1789
to 1799 that had a fundamental impact on French History and on modern history worldwide.
o
In French we call it: La Révolution française
2.
The French
revolution was caused by a combination of many different things, leading to the
vast unhappiness among the citizens of France.
The economy was not healthy; there were poor
harvests, rising food prices, and inadequate transportation systems which made
food even more expensive. The national government went into virtual bankruptcy
due to its poor tax system and the mounting debts caused by numerous large
wars. In addition to all of this, there
were serious conflicts between the social classes in France, making matters
worse.
3. Meanwhile,
the royal court at Versailles was
isolated from, and unconcerned about the escalating crisis. King Louis XVI was an
absolute monarch, and was often criticized for his handling of France’s
affairs.
4. In 1789
Paris was consumed by riots, chaos, and widespread looting. The mobs soon had
the support of some of the French Guard. This
lead to the Storming of the Bastille on July 14th, the official start date of
the French Revolution.
5. This was
the start of many radical changes in France including government, church,
economy and social classes.

Absolute monarchy was done away with
and France adopted the Directoire (or Directory, as we say in English), a
majority-ruled style of government.
o
On August 26th 1789, the National Constituent Assembly
published the Declaration of Rights of Man and of the Citizen, similar
to that of the United States Constitution we use today.
o
King Louis XVI was executed by guillotine on January
21st 1793 on the Place
de la Révolution. His wife was soon executed the same way.
o
Power shifted away from the Catholic
Church & into the hands of citizens. Taxes were no longer owed to churches.
6. On
November 9th 1799 Napoleon Bonaparte staged a Coup. This
effectively led to Bonaparte's dictatorship and eventually, ended the French
Revolution.
